I am looking forward to starting the Response to Intervention (RTI) program next week. Kindergarten classes will be introduced to the "Handwriting Without Tears" intervention. We will be using sticks to learn how to construct letters. We will construct the letters while listening to a special song with the "Hokey-Pokey" melody. This will help the students to remember the construction of each letter.

First grade classes will begin working on the Houghton-Mifflin intervention strategies. We will begin playing games correlating with the "m" and "t" letter sounds.

Center Cass School District # 66 is in the process of implementing an Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) mandate, Response of Intervention (RTI). RTI is an array of procedues that can be used to determine if and how students respond to specific changes in instruction. RTI provides an improved process and instruction for school teams in designing, implementing, and educational interventions.
